Happy Easter!

Posted March 24, 2016 By Linda

Happy Easter!! I thought I’d send Easter wishes early and share my table setting for Easter.

I love setting tables :D. Usually I stick to pastels at Easter, but this year I chose a bright lime green tablecloth. To balance out the bright colour, I added brilliant glass orange chargers and a runner, with more muted shades, down the centre of the table. Once a year I gather all the cute bunny and chick stuffed animals we’ve collected and make them the star of the centrepiece. I made the hanging bunnies out of felt (well, I bought one at the dollar store and then copied it because it was so cute!).

I’m looking forward to sharing Easter dinner with family and friends – and send best Easter wishes your way! 😀

Storage Solutions!

Posted February 23, 2016 By Linda

Love setting a table, but hate ironing the linens? Read on!!

IMG_5262I know there are a few of you out there who love to set a table as much as I do! In fact, my love (obsession) with table setting inspired my writing – my heroine from She’s Not a Fan, Sarah Jain, frets over which tablecloth to use when she invites the very sexy Mike Wallace over for dinner. Just like me, she has a number of colourful tablecloths to choose from!

IMG_4987I went through a phase when I would look for sales on fabric – I was quite the bargain hunter. With 5 metres of fabric, I’d sew a tablecloth for my dining room table and a set of 10 napkins. Over time, I ended up with a collection of napkins and tablecloths that I could mix and match. But how to store them? They were either in a jumble or squashed at the back of the shelf and constantly wrinkled. Not great – since I’m not a huge fan of ironing!

No longer!

I realized I could hang the napkins on pant hangers. It’s easier to iron them when they’re damp from the washer and hanging them with pant hangers keeps them wrinkle-free. And no more sorting through stacks to find them! Ingenious!!

My napkins rings are hung on the multi-level pant hangers – easy to see and use.

And for the tablecloths – did you know that most fabric stores (at least in Kingston) give away the cardboard tubes for free? You know, the long tubes that drapery fabric comes on? Yes, if you ask very nicely, with a big smile, they’ll give them to you for free! I roll the tablecloth on the tube and hang it on a wall in my basement. Wrinkle-free and accessible!

Granted it takes space in a closet, but now when I’m setting a table, the tablecloth, napkins, and napkin rings are ready to use and easy to mix and match!

And don’t even ask how I store the candles 😀 If you’d like to read She’s Not a Fan – you can! It’s free on Wattpad. Click HERE.

novel 1 cover snafSarah Jain is a family doctor in a mid-size hockey-crazy town. She hates hockey. She hasn’t gone anywhere near a rink in years, until her friend, the team doctor, calls in a favour.

Mike Wallace is the starting goalie for the local professional hockey team. He’s not about to let an injury slow him down or a rookie doctor call the shots.

They don’t respect each other’s jobs, but when they have to work together, sparks fly and ice melts. Can they play a game they both can win?

Love on the ice doesn’t always go smoothly!

Perfect Beach Read

Posted February 13, 2016 By Linda

We tested out the Perfectly Series and yes indeed, all 3 books are the perfect beach read. Spent a week in the beautiful Grand Cayman Island soaking up the sun, surf, and sand! What’s that you say – A study with only one test case may not be enough? You may be right. I’ll have to head to the beach again! 😀
