Shooting a Video

Feb 12, 2015 – This is a blog I wrote as a guest on Christina Kirby’s Author Spotlight!

green screen bedroom

Wondering how we made the green screen video book trailer? Did we fly to LA, take a train to a fancy Toronto studio?

Just after Christmas, I recorded a book trailer video for Perfectly Honest. My son’s bedroom had the perfect green wall for a green screen effect. My son picked the colour when he was younger, and I remember trying to talk him out of something so bright. Luckily he insisted! Sandy James, one of my son’s friends and a recent graduate of the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University, set up the ‘studio’ with lights and sound. We filmed 3 versions – one line by line and two without stopping. Sandy did a fantastic job editing, adding the cartoons, and choosing the music. The result is fun and light-hearted, which I love.

Here’s how it turned out:

It’s February – Where did you find love?

Posted February 9, 2015 By Linda

painted pink heart

February already!! The month of love – isn’t it great! But I’d like to know – where did you find love?

I was invited by a group of medical students to participate in a panel of female physicians. The students were interested in getting a perspective on balancing work and family. At the end of the evening, one of the students remarked, “This is all really helpful information, but where do you meet the guy?

Good question! Let’s help her out!! Tell me – Where did you meet your partner?

Leave a comment on this post or

You’ll be able to go out for dinner on Valentine’s Day and reminisce about how you met! Helping her, helping you – it’s a win-win!

Acting and Dancing!

Posted January 29, 2015 By Linda

Jan. 29, 2015 – Erin Bevan invited me to her blog to write about what I do in my spare time. 😀

Last year I had a chance to act in a movie (that might be a bit of a stretch. Hey – Liesa Cross, who is featured on Sharing the Awesome was there too!) and dance in a flash mob. It was my take on ‘Do something every day that scares you!’  (Check out the video – that’s me in the back right!)

Letter to Ellen Degeneres

Dear Ellen,

I had a brainwave and had to share it with you. I love your show – it makes me laugh and you’re a kind and extremely generous person. It is a pleasure to watch you.

I was thinking about your send-off line – Be kind to one another. It’s great, don’t get me wrong. It covers all aspects of life, is a basic human tenet – really it covers a lot of ground. But say one day, you wake up and think, hey I’ve been saying the same thing for 11 seasons, maybe it’s time to change it up. I have an idea for that – you could combine medical education public service with your send off! I know, I’m surprised you haven’t thought of it sooner, too!

I know you have a team of writers, but I have a few suggestions to get them started (I tried to keep them short because the crowd is usually cheering and I imagine Andy is giving you the wrap-up signal.). How about these:

Learn CPR. Save a life!

Tuck your thumb in when you use an epipen!

Sunscreen really works!

Wear a wide brimmed hat on a sunny day!

Chewing tobacco causes oral cancer! (That one’s a bit of a downer. You might have to add Have a nice day!)

This is just a start, Ellen (or do you like it spelled ellen?). I have more if you need them. I’m very excited about this. I think you could really help doctors get the word out about this stuff!

Keep up the good work. I love laughing with you every day!
