Day 1 of the 10-day Countdown!

Posted May 3, 2020 By Linda

It’s day 1 of the 10-day Countdown!! Meet Tacos – and the story behind choosing an old English sheepdog.

Don’t Forget the Dog is Book 2 of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series ~ matchmaking at its funniest! May 4 is the big day. Woohoo!!

The premise of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series is that Brogan, doctor-turned-chef, cooks up romance and fun when two people are thrown together after she’s offered to help them out. When I plotted Don’t Forget the Dog, I thought it would be fun to have Brogan look after a pet instead of a human. The pet’s human, Blaine McKinnon, became the sexy, talented hero of the romance. I needed a reason why Brogan had to get involved, so I came up with the idea to make the dog high maintenance. Old English sheepdogs have long fur that sheds a lot, and they need to be brushed every day. Plus they tend to drool – which I thought made the perfect excuse for Brogan to look after Tacos at his own home instead of taking him into hers. Then I needed the hero to have a reason why he couldn’t look after his dog temporarily – that is, why Brogan had to get involved. I decided to make the hero a chef and owner of a restaurant. He knew he was going to be busy during the hectic week around Valentine’s Day and asks Brogan to help out with Tacos. (It’s actually not that straightforward and how Brogan ends up taking care of Tacos is one of my favourite scenes in the story.) That’s how Chef Blaine McKinnon and his adorable sheepdog, Tacos, became the stars of the romance. I can’t wait to share their story with you tomorrow!

Here’s a fun dog fact:

Cerberus, the name of the three-headed guard dog of the underworld, comes from the Greek word, Kerberos. Kerberos means “spotted.” Hades, guardian of the dead, literally named his pet dog Spot. Haha

A  bit about Don’t Forget the Dog ~

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is second only to her skill at matchmaking!

Blaine McKinnon, owner and executive chef of an upscale restaurant in Mapleton, has an adorable Old English sheepdog named Tacos. Brogan is roped into dog-sitting Tacos at Blaine’s house. The upside is the spectacular kitchen at her disposal.

Dr. Sabrina Langfield, a newly minted doctor, is in a bind when her mom, Rue, falls and fractures her wrist. Brogan offers to help and does double-duty looking after Tacos and Rue.

Blaine and Sabrina were high school sweethearts but parted ways when Blaine pushed Sabrina to pursue a career. Sabrina hasn’t seen him since, but Rue is a huge fan and frequents his restaurant. Rue’s biggest regret is her part in Sabrina and Blaine’s break-up, and with Brogan’s help, she’s determined to get them back together. It might not be that easy – Sabrina is wary of Tacos and, more pressing, she’s decided to move a four-hour flight away to do five more years of training in emergency medicine.

Will meddlesome matchmaking, Blaine’s persuasiveness, and – don’t forget the dog – Tacos’ sweet nature be enough to convince Sabrina to stay?

Day 4 of the 10-day Countdown!

Posted April 30, 2020 By Linda

It’s day 4 of the 10-day Countdown!! Meet Dr. Brogan Corkie.

Don’t Forget the Dog is Book 2 of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series ~ matchmaking at its funniest! May 4 is the big day. Woohoo!

Well, this is certainly a pleasure! I’m Dr. Brogan Corkie. I’m a mother, a doctor, and by far the most fun, an amateur chef. I’ve been experimenting with recipes for years using my two children, Mae and Finn, as guinea pigs. They’re onto me now, though, and it’s harder to convince them that the substitutions I make are going to be just as tasty. They generally are. 😀

I’ve been a family physician for forty years now, and I’ve pared back my hours at the clinic to make more time in the kitchen. My fridge and freezer are getting mighty full, so I’ve branched out to find more victims…er…taste testers. I always thought it would be worthwhile to start a catering business and combine my medical skills with my cooking skills to help people who are laid up at home, recovering from an illness or injury. It’s worked out better than I could have imagined – and lo and behold – I’ve thrown a little matchmaking into the mix. It’s been fun to open their eyes to new ways of thinking – about food and love! Executive Chef Canada winner Chef Blaine McKinnon has a topnotch cooking school here in Mapleton, and the classes he teaches, in particular, are usually reserved for classically trained chefs. But a friend pulled a few strings for me, and I’m starting a course next week. I can’t wait! There’s always something fun happening in retirement – onto the next adventure!

Day 7 of the 10-day Countdown!

Posted April 27, 2020 By Linda

It’s day 7 of the 10-day Countdown!! Meet Chef Blaine McKinnon ~ the very sexy executive chef of Fire and Ice restaurant in Mapleton.

Don’t Forget the Dog is Book 2 of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series ~ second-chance sweet romances! May 4 is the big day. Woohoo!

Hey, how’s it going? Chef Blaine McKinnon here. A lot of you may recognize me from the Executive Chef Canada show – a lot has happened since I walked off the set as the winner. My restaurant, Fire and Ice, in downtown Mapleton had already been up and running, but the national coverage that came with the win has taken the success of the restaurant to the next level. It’s busy. That’s an understatement, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. We keep our menu fairly tight, but I also experiment with new dishes which customers love. One of my favourite traditions is getting out to greet the diners and get feedback on everything from the food, to the service, to the ambiance at the restaurant – and everything in between. I appreciate the loyal patrons who come again and again – even the ones prying into my love life. Gotta love a small town!

Just to let you know – Tacos is still thriving. I get a lot of people asking about him on social media after he was spotlighted on the show. He’s still a furry ball of love and slobbery kisses. haha. And loved by everyone in the neighbourhood.

Well, it’s time for me to get back to work – if you’re in Mapleton, drop by Fire and Ice. See for yourself if it lives up to its 5-star reputation.

Day 8 of the 10-day Countdown!

Posted April 26, 2020 By Linda

It’s day 8 of the 10-day Countdown!! Meet Dr. Sabrina Langfield. She’s a busy family doctor and happily single. Dr. Brogan Corkie, doctor-turned-chef, won’t be cooking up love and romance in her life. Or so she says.

Don’t Forget the Dog is Book 2 of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series ~ fun stand-alone romantic comedies! May 4 is the big day. Woohoo!

Hey Everyone – it’s Sabrina! I’m hanging out here in Mapleton, Ontario. I just finished my family medicine residency and decided to return home – to my mother’s delight – to take a breather and decide what to do next in my career. Have you ever had that sinking feeling that you’ve chosen the wrong career path? I love medicine, don’t get me wrong, but after doing a stint in emerg during my family medicine residency, I realized that I LOVE the fast pace and crazy busy dynamic of the emergency department. I have a chance to switch specialties, which actually isn’t that easy, but I have to decide if five more years of training is what I really want. Oh well, it’s a good problem to have – and in the meantime I’m getting my feet wet at the Family Medicine Clinic in Mapleton. They were short-handed after Dr. Brogan Corkie, a beloved family doc decided to retire – or at least semi-retire – nobody could bear the thought of her leaving medicine completely.

It’s crazy being back in my old ’hood. Some things have changed – like a new fancy restaurant in the downtown “core” (it’s one street but it’s a bustling place), and some things never change – like the shaggy hair and annoyingly sexy he-who-shall-not-be-named owner of the new restaurant or my mom’s prying questions about my love life. Are all Mom’s like that? Oh well, I love her, nosiness and all. It’s just another day in the paradise we call Mapleton. Come stop by for a chat – you know my mom is always up for that!

A New Countdown Begins!

Posted April 24, 2020 By Linda

It’s the start of another Countdown!!

I’m so excited to reveal the cover for the second book of the Dr. Brogan Corkie, Matchmaking Doctor series. I had the cover designed by Candice Gilmer of Flirtation Designs. Look at Tacos – isn’t he adorable? I love the way Candice added a little ball for him to play with. Blaine McKinnon runs into trouble finding someone to look after Tacos, and Brogan steps in to help! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Blaine has a pretty awesome kitchen for Brogan to use while she’s dog-sitting.
