Dr. Quinn Malone has another priority. In the countdown to Christmas, he needs to convince his old flame that there’s more to life – and love – than the job itself.

This time, his heart is in it for the long haul. Really.

Who can resist hot firefighters?

Posted October 25, 2018 By Linda

I’m so excited to welcome multi-published and award-winning author, Nancy Lee Badger! She presents this full-length contemporary romance, With Every Spark. She has used memories of life as an EMT and volunteer firefighter in rural New Hampshire, to set a story filled with sights, sounds, beautiful landscapes, and a terrifying forest fire.

Thanks for hosting me, Linda. Growing up on Long Island, NY, then my many years of living in rural New Hampshire at the foot of the White Mountains, created a love of waterfalls. This helped give me the ideas for the entire series. This is a stand-alone story released September 2nd and part of my Opportunity Falls novels.

More about With Every Spark, Book #4, Opportunity Falls series

Josie Miller senses that fellow paramedic-firefighter, Pete Thayer, is hiding something behind his sketchy history. He has a reputation for one-night stands in the small town of Fairfield, New Hampshire. He doesn’t look at her that way, but Joe finds she is falling for him.

They respond to accident calls, medical emergencies, and fast-moving forest fires amid sparks of another kind. Outside influences come in to play, and Pete is accused of murder. After he professes his innocence, and their relationship ignites, her brothers intervene. A suicide note, a fight, stolen moments of love, and a desire to listen to their hearts, lead these two heroes toward a climax filled with tension, pain, bloodshed, and atonement.

Excerpt from With Every Spark

Pete jumped out of the ambulance driver’s seat and slammed the door. He started hauling on his fire gear, as well.

“You’re scowling. What did dispatch say?”

“Nothing. The radio doesn’t work. The storm’s last bolt fried everything electrical. It’s toast.” He glared at her as he pulled on his helmet. “We will be, too, if we don’t find a safe way out of the fire. Are you familiar with this area at all? I usually hike and climb on the south side, near Falcon Ridge.”

Josie picked up the portable oxygen tank meant for patient care, not firefighting. She pulled the strap over one shoulder while fitting the mask over her face. Opening the valve, clean, clear oxygen flowed into her nose and mouth. It would keep the smoke at bay. For awhile. She pulled the mask back down in order to answer him.

“I played here with my brothers. Several trails end up at Birch Tree River, before flowing under Lennox Bridge, then passing to the other side of north Main Street. If we keep going downhill, we’ll meet up with the river.”

“We’ll find our trek slow-going in these heavy coats.”

“We need to conserve our strength,” she reminded him.

“Our strength won’t mean squat if we get caught in the fire. Let’s go. We’ll regroup with the others, later. Don’t leave anything personal in the ambulance.” He glanced back at the rig. “It won’t be here.”

At the thought of their ambulance, stabbing pain pierced Josie’s chest. The rig was their responsibility. Over two–hundred–thousand dollars worth of equipment will be swallowed up by flames. “There’s nothing we can do?”

“Not a thing. Let’s go,” he scowled. “I don’t plan to die today.”

Welcome Carly Jordynn!

Posted October 18, 2018 By Linda

I’m so pleased to welcome Carly Jordynn, author of the Forest of the Mist series. She’s sent along Davy McGuire, hero from the third book of the series, Guardians, which will be released Dec 5!

Linda:  Joining us today is Davy McGuire from the Forest of the Mist Series written by Carly Jordynn. Thank you for agreeing to an interview, Davy. Rumor has it you’re in a lot of trouble these days. Would you care to explain?

Davy:  I think the question is when have I not been in trouble. When I was younger, before the alternate realms evened out my aging and growth, I kidnapped my soon to be Grandfather into the portal paths and took him to Paradise Valley.

Linda: Paradise Valley? Portal paths? What are you talking about?

Davy:  Paradise Valley is an alternate reality that some people can reach when they are in a coma. For me, I was conceived and born in the alternate realms so I can access it via the portal paths. You see, I have powers and one of those is the ability to create portals.

Linda: Did you get in trouble for anything else?

Davy:  I turned the hostess of the Dark Land into an old decrepit lady and banished her until she died.

Linda:  You have THAT much power?

Davy: I do in the alternate realms. It is manifested there and since I am technically a product of that land, I have all the powers that go along with that.

Linda:  Do you have any friends?

Davy:  Not many. You see one of the quirks of Paradise Valley is accelerated growth and maturity. I was seventeen when I should have been eleven. I was seven or eight when I should have been two.

Linda: That’s not what my sources tell me. I heard you have a special friend. A girl named Kelly O’Brien.

Davy: Kelly is my girlfriend and she will someday be the co-ruler of the alternate realms with me.

Linda: I heard her parents are not too keen on that idea.

Davy: Her parents, Connor and Lily, are not happy because I, along with the alternates, aged their six year old daughter to sixteen.

Linda: You what? Why?

Davy:  I knew Kelly was to be my co-ruler and I wanted her to be there sooner rather than later. Instead of waiting for her to grow up, I “encouraged” her to have rapid growth and maturity too.

Linda: You are in a lot of trouble.

Davy: Linda, you have no idea. If Connor and Lily find out mine and Kelly’s secret, I’ll be in even more trouble and before you ask, no I won’t tell you what it is.

Linda:  Is there anything else you can share with me?

Davy:  The conclusion of the Forest of the Mist series, Guardians, releases on December 5th, just in time for Christmas. If you haven’t read the first two books of the series, you may want to get them now so you’ll be caught up on my adventures.

Linda:  Thank you for the interview, Davy!

Here’s more about Forest of the Mist: Guardians ~

Davy Kyle is in a ton of trouble. That’s really nothing new for Davy as he has been in trouble his whole life. Davy was born in the alternate realm, Paradise Valley. As a result, he has some freakish powers such as rapid growth in body and intelligence, the ability to create portals to transport to the alternate realms, and the ability to know what others are thinking.

During his last adventure, Davy learned he would one day have a co-ruler in the realms and her name would be Kelly. Through a bit of impromptu eaves dropping, he learned that his friends from Paradise Valley, Connor and Lily O’Brien would name their young daughter, Kelly. Shocked at this coincidence, Davy sets out to determine how Kelly will arrive in Paradise since you have to be in a coma to enter the alternate worlds.

Kelly O’Brien was a spoiled six year old when family friend and confidant, Davy Kyle kidnapped her through a portal to an alternate reality. While there, Davy aged her to sixteen and explained that one day she would be his co-ruler there. While she understood and looked forward to that day, she asked Davy to return her to six and her parents. He did as she asked, but invoked his powers to start accelerated aging and maturity. The alternate realms recognized Kelly and helped with that aging process.

Now Kelly’s parents have enrolled her in high school in the hope she will meet somebody else, fall in love, and forget about Davy and Paradise Valley. What they don’t know is Kelly’s determination to be with Davy no matter the cost.

What Davy does to ensure Kelly’s arrival in Paradise, is sooner rather than later, will test the ties of his family and friends in reality and may cost him the love of his life.

Forest of the Mist: Guardians will be released December 5. Click HERE for the first book of the series, Forest of the Mist: Travelers

Day 1 ~ Beyond the Face-Off Countdown!

Posted August 23, 2018 By Linda

picture of call a no. one

It’s day 1, the last day of the 10-day Countdown before the big release!! Beyond the Face-Off is Book 3 of the In the Game Hockey Romance series. (Book 3 already!) August 24 is the big day. Woohoo!

Here’s a sneak peek at the first chapter of Beyond the Face-Off! Enjoy!

Chapter 1 Beyond the Face-Off

Kelly Danali flipped the lock on her pharmacy and pulled the door open. The waft of warm air from outside lifted her curls, and she inhaled the scent of fresh cut grass and damp soil. Such a glorious spring day after a long winter – it was too nice not to let the sunshine stream in. She propped the door open with a bucket of umbrellas. Better use for them, she thought with a smile.

She poked her head outside and made sure that the illuminated sign above the door was off. No need to waste electricity when the pink and purple scroll of Danali’s Drugs glittered in the sunshine. She placed the “open” sign in the front window and wandered through the store, straightening items as she went and eyeing the stock that needed to be reordered. The inventory was computerized, but it didn’t hurt to double check.

She stepped behind the pharmacy counter as the first customer of the day walked in.

Kelly pinned on a nametag and punched a code into the cash register to open it for the day as she watched the customer make his way through the store.

He’s new in the ’hood. Two years of running your own pharmacy, you got to know people. And tall. He probably had six inches on her five nine. Lots of lovely muscle. Not intimidating, though. Easy on the eyes, and moving through the store like a lost Alice in Wonderland. She grinned. The store had that effect on people.

Day 3 ~ Beyond the Face-Off Countdown!

It’s day 3 of the 10-day Countdown!! Beyond the Face-Off is Book 3 of the In the Game Hockey Romance series. (Book 3 already!) August 24 is the big day. Woohoo!

In Beyond the Face-Off, Kelly is worried about the increasing use of inhaler use among teens. Kelly broke down the proper use of a meter-dose inhaler into 3 easy steps:

  1. Remove the cap and hold the inhaler upright. Shake it 5 times.
  2. Tilt you head back slightly and take a deep breath in and out.
  3. Press down on the inhaler and breathe in slowly at the same time. (Some people hold the inhaler 1-2 inches from their mouth, some close their lips around the inhaler). Hold your breath for 10 seconds so the medicine goes into your lungs.

Bonus tips:

  1. Rinse your mouth after using the inhaler especially if it contains a steroid to prevent thrush.
  2. Keep track of how many puffs you use so you know when to get a new inhaler. It’s hard to tell when the medicine is finished and only the propellant is left.
  3. If you have trouble coordinating pressing the inhaler with breathing in, you can use a spacer. A spacer is a device that looks like a hollow tube. It attaches to the inhaler. You can press the inhaler and then breathe in more slowly.
  4. Don’t share inhalers.

In an audition, like any interview, body language plays a critical factor in whether or not you will land the job. Here are a few of Kelly’s tips to help you get the gig:

  1. Smile. Avoid displaying sadness, anger, or disdain as you enter or leave the audition room. Leave those negative expressions for when you’re acting!

  1. If a director makes a suggestion to improve your audition, face them and lean toward them slightly. This shows you’re actively listening. And apply their advice!

  1. Harness confidence. Make eye contact. Don’t move your eyes too much and never look at the ground. Stand up straight with your shoulders back.

  1. Pump yourself up before heading to the audition. Listen to music that gets you pumped, think of a time when you felt proud of an accomplishment, call a friend or family member who makes you feel good, and wear clothes that are comfortable and make you feel good. Start building your confidence before you head out the door.
