Day 9 ~ What it’s all About!

Posted May 5, 2022 By Linda

It’s day 9 of the 10-day Countdown!! It’s time to share the blurb. Here’s what LOVE & THE HIDDEN HOCKEY CLUES is all about!

Love and the Hidden Hockey Clues, is the first in a new series, Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance. It’s about a doctor who finds a tin box hidden between the studs during renovations of her home. She thought the items were random hockey mementos but realizes they’re clues and enlists the help of the captain of the local pro hockey team to help her sort out where they lead. I’ve always thought it would be cool to find a hidden treasure during renovations and that sparked the initial idea. I also love escape rooms with the challenge of clues to decipher and puzzles to solve. I thought I’d weave that type of white-collar crime mystery into a romance. Add in a smart, sassy doctor and a swoon-worthy professional hockey player, and the stage is set for a fun, clever hockey caper. This is the first book in the series and all of the (stand-alone) stories will have an element of white-collar crime – like a cozy mystery without murder!

May 14 is the big day. Woohoo!

Love and the Hidden Hockey Clues coverFollowing the clues and falling in love…

When she was younger, Dr. Abigail Clark dreamed of playing professional hockey, but the world wasn’t ready for a female player. That stung. She skated as far away from hockey as possible – until she lands a job in the emergency department of a hockey-crazy town and buys the house of the late beloved Zamboni driver. A tin box is discovered during the renovation of her new home, and Abigail brushes it off as a time capsule left by the previous owner – that is until someone tries to steal it. Turns out, the odd collection is more than just sentimental hockey memorabilia.

Abigail inadvertently embroils Del Braebury, captain of the local pro hockey team, into helping her sort it out. Her history with hockey players is rocky at best, but he comes in handy when she needs to access parts of the rink that are off limits. Del is happy to be tangled up in the clues of the hidden hockey loot. In the process of solving the mystery, he hopes to win Abigail’s heart!

Love and the Hidden Hockey Clues is up for pre-order. The big day is May 14! Can’t wait to share this story with you. Stayed tuned – tomorrow Dr. Abigail Clark will be dropping by.

The Countdown Begins – Cover Reveal!!

Posted May 4, 2022 By Linda

It’s the start of another countdown!! Yes, I’m finally ready to release the first book of a new series! I love doing escape rooms with the challenge of clues to decipher and puzzles to solve. I thought I’d weave that type of white-collar crime mystery into a romance. Add in a smart, sassy doctor and a swoon-worthy professional hockey player, and the stage is set for a fun, clever hockey caper. The stories in this series will all be stand-alone, kisses-only romantic comedies with all the feel of a sexy romance – sweet with heat!

Choosing a cover for this story was quite the journey! I had one designed but I didn’t love it. So then I designed 4 more and couldn’t choose which one to use. Haha They all had elements that are appealing and, hopefully, the final choice will appeal the most. Thank you very much to my family, friends, and fellow authors who responded to daily texts for about 2 weeks asking their opinion. I appreciated all the advice!! Ta-da ~ here’s the cover ~

Celebrating on Romance Lives Forever

Posted May 1, 2022 By Linda

I’m excited to be sharing my new cover for Time for the Doctor on Romance Lives Forever blog. Thanks so much to Kayelle Allen for a chance to be in the spotlight! It’s HERE

Dr. Tash Bannon, the only internist at Copper Mills General Hospital, is a workaholic. After a couple of patient complaints, the board of directors realizes Tash needs a break and “suggests” he take a three-month vacation.

Dr. Melissa Sinclair is a single mom, and her adopted son comes first in her life. She’s used to the hustle of a big city hospital but takes the job replacing Tash hoping to expose her son to his Hopi ancestry during their time in Copper Mills.

Tash resents having to take time off – and has an even harder time staying away now that Melissa is around. Now to decide which is more important: his job or Melissa?

It’s time for the doctor to make Time for the Doctor!

I’m celebrating! I have a new cover for Time for the Doctor. I think this cover reflects the story with the setting of Copper Mills, an idyllic small town with a heart as big as the wide-open spaces and really cute doctors!

Decisions, decisions – choosing a cover!

Posted April 12, 2022 By Linda

I’d love your opinion! I’ve written a romantic comedy, and I can’t decide which cover to use. I have 4 options, and I definitely have my favorite but I’m wondering if my fav is your fav. The story is about a woman (a doctor) who finds a box of hockey memorabilia hidden in the studs of her house when she is renovating. She realizes that the items are clues and she enlists the help of a local professional hockey player to help her unravel the mystery. This is the first book of a new series and I hope to release it this month – if I can ever decide on a cover!

Sweet to eat and sweet to read!

Posted March 13, 2022 By Linda

One of my favourite events happens in March. With a surname like O’Connor you’d think it would be St. Patrick’s Day. Nope! It’s Maple Madness. Spanning the last two weeks of March every year, our local conservation area hosts a deliciously sweet celebration of tapping maple trees for – you guessed it, maple syrup. You can hike the two-kilometre trek to the sugar bush or hitch a ride on a tractor-pulled wagon. They’ve set up an interactive walk through the forest that details the history of maple syrup collection back in time when sap was collected in buckets tapped into trees and then boiled in large open kettles up to the modern-day system of tubing strung from tree to tree. The sap is syphoned back to the sugar shack where it’s boiled down and concentrated. There is also an enthusiastic group of volunteers who fry up hundreds of pancakes each year – topped with warm maple syrup, of course. We’ve gone every year from the time I carried the babies in snugglies under my coat until they were old enough to want two – or three – servings of pancakes. It’s always been a sweet, fun, spring tradition in our house!

If you’re looking for a fun, sweet book to read this spring, the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series would hit the spot!

In Don’t Drop the Baby, Dr. Lauren Kane is temporarily caring for her nephew, and when his regular babysitter falls ill, she calls newly retired Brogan Corkie for help. Brogan, physician-turned-chef, has committed to looking after her friend’s relative who is recovering from an accident, but can easily do both. Turns out, Brogan’s “patient” is Ross Skye, billionaire owner of BabyCare and Lauren’s ex-beau, and Lauren isn’t too happy to be flying in his orbit again. The things we do for family!

A bit about Don’t Drop the Baby ~

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is second only to her skill at matchmaking!

Ross Skye, owner of BabyCare, a high-end line of baby merchandise, is injured in an accident, and Brogan uses her cooking, medical – and matchmaking – skills to help him out. Dr. Lauren Kane is taking care of her nephew for two weeks, and Brogan agrees to babysit while Lauren is at work.

Two years ago, Ross and Lauren dated. At that time, Lauren wanted kids, but Ross wasn’t keen. Now the tables have turned, and Ross is trying to convince Lauren that they’d make an awesome parenting team. Brogan suggests they test drive parenthood by looking after a simulated baby for a week – a computerized version that eats, sleeps, wets, and cries. Ross and Lauren experience the “joy” of having a newborn firsthand, and the bar is set pretty low. Their first goal is: don’t drop the baby. The second goal is to find out if their love for each other will survive the test of…parenting.

Love for my IT Guy!

Posted February 12, 2022 By Linda

Happy Valentine’s Day! A day to celebrate the love of your life. Congratulations to those people who have found their person, their soul mate, their one and only. You have reason to celebrate. Fostering a relationship takes commitment, time, and selflessness. But dare I suggest that there is an even greater love to behold? A special bond that transcends even the most romantic of relationships.

Yes, it is the love I have for my IT guy. Without him, I’d be stumbling, struggling, unable to get past the desktop screen.

He’s only one email away, and each email is like a love letter from cyberspace. Always calm in the face of adversity, he just knows what to do. Like the time I went to pay and searched left and right, up and down for the NEXT button. I clicked around aimlessly, stuck on cyber hold, lost and confused. It only took two words from my IT guy, as powerful as any “I do.” Command minus. Absolutely brilliant. Is there anything more satisfying than emptying your cart and moving on?

Or the time, hard at work on my work laptop, a sexy little blue without Microsoft suite applications – no Word, no PowerPoint, no Excel. I saved a photo, but alas, where did it go? “Where?” I asked.  My IT guy swooped in like an eagle-eyed owl, unblinking, all-knowing, took one swift glance, and pointed to the taskbar. “Check the file folder.” I bowed to his infinite knowledge. How does he know all this stuff?

He’s selflessly guided me through installing Microsoft Teams, launching QuicktimePlayer, locking my password, emptying the cache, erasing the cookies, backing up with an external hard drive – he unravels the tangled web one click at a time.

And don’t even get me started on updates. All I can do is shudder and hand the whole laptop over, shielding my eyes from the pain of it all until it’s 100% complete.

My IT guy has my back, puts in time and energy to make my life a better place, all with patience and kindness. We truly have a special bond…one I treasure and foster. I’ll never forget that holy grail of IT advice he once gave so generously: “Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?”

Yes, truly, love for my IT guy knows no bounds.

There’s more to love…Beyond the Face-Off.

Enjoy an excerpt from Beyond the Face-Off ~

Her smile widened as the newcomer came up to the counter. “Hi, can I help you?”

He held out a piece of paper. “I have a prescription that needs to be filled.”

Kelly’s smile froze and her heart stuttered as recognition dawned. Jake Ross. The Jake Ross was in her store. The dazzling star forward and newest sensation on the Clarington Quakes hockey team had been the buzz of the town for the last six weeks. He had gone to her high school way back when but had been two years ahead of her. In school. Likely a few more than that in life experience. Those blue eyes that had been plastered all over the Clarington Post were an even deeper shade of sexy in real life. The smile? To die for. And that gorgeous wavy brown hair? Oh. Yum. And he was in her store.

His smile faltered and he frowned. He looked at the nametag pinned above her left breast and swept his gaze across her chest back to her eyes. “Ah, this is a pharmacy, right?”

Her breasts tingled, and she straightened her shoulders. Probably not the best place for a nametag. “Of course. Sorry.” She reached for the prescription he held out and quickly scanned it. Harpen. Thirty pills. She struggled to keep a neutral face. “Is this for you?” She checked the name as he shook his head.

“No, for my dad.”

“Of course.” B.J. Ross, she read. She looked at him. “It’ll just be a moment.”

He nodded and turned to browse in the store as Kelly went into the storeroom behind the counter and found the bottle she needed. She counted out the pills, scooped them into a small pill bottle, and printed off a label.

“Okay, all set.” Kelly walked over to the cash as he returned to the counter. Was it just her or was there a sizzle in the air? “Has your dad had this before?” Please say yes.

He shook his head. “I don’t think so. He’s feeling a bit under the weather. He came back from the doctor with this and asked if I could pick it up for him.”

Kelly nodded and cleared her throat. “I’ve slipped some information about it in the bag, but it’s used to treat erectile dysfunction. It takes about thirty minutes for the full effect–” She stopped at his strangled sound.

He raised his hands in the air, and his eyes went wide. “What?”

Kelly blinked. “It’s used to keep an erection hard so intercourse is pos–”

“Yeah, I know what erectile dysfunction is. How is that going to help my father?”

“Well, if he’s having problems with–”

“No.” Jake shook his head and waved his hands in the air. A flush spread over his cheeks. “I don’t want to discuss my father’s…erectile,” he said with a wince, “problems.” He shook his head. “He told me he had the flu.”

Kelly looked at him. “This won’t help the flu.” She grinned. “But it may make him feel better.”
